According to Kathy Brewis, Sunday Times Style magazine (March 1st) the cult of self-treating is alive & well.
'How and why do women treat themselves these days? A Harrods by Appointment personal shopper says she sees two types of women: the lawyer or doctor who wants a piece of Cartier to reward herself for her hard graft; and the women on tiny budgets who have saved up for months for a £180 McQueen scarf. "Women really know what they want now," she says. "They're not waiting for a man to get it for them any more. We all deserve to be looked after. If someone else isn't going to do it, we do it for ourselves."
Rose Vanier, 25 singer, got into expensive lingerie a year ago...
"Feeling good about yourself on stage is important - even though you can't see my underwear, I'm aware of it and I like knowing it's there. If we get an advance, and I think I deserve it, I'll treat myself to a set. I'll pay up to £200 for a beautiful bra & knickers. I don't think it's something you can cut back on - it's the foundation, like spending money on good moisturiser. I don't feel guilty about it, either. If you think you're worthy of good underwear, you should have it."
